Split bills by income calculator
Enter each partner's monthly income and what they paid toward shared bills. See what's fair three ways: 50/50, in proportion to income, or so you both keep the same money left over. It's free, needs no signup, and nothing you type leaves your browser.

Sharing a home?
In a Spliteo group you split each expense by Parts, like 3 and 2 for 60/40, and your balance updates as you both add expenses. Rent can repeat every month as a recurring expense with a fixed amount for each of you (the free plan includes 1). Free on web, iOS and Android.
Create a free groupHow it works
- Enter each person's net monthly income: take-home pay, after taxes. Use the same currency for everyone.
- Add what each person paid toward shared bills this month, like rent, groceries and utilities. Together, that's the month's shared bills.
- Compare what each person pays 50/50, by income and with equal leftover money, then pick one to see who pays whom to even out the month.
Questions
- Is splitting by income fairer than 50/50?
- It depends on what you both agree is fair. With 50/50, each person pays the same amount. By income, each pays the same share of what they earn. Equal leftover goes further: after shared bills, you both have the same money left.
- How does equal leftover work?
- Add up everyone's income, subtract the shared bills and divide what's left equally: that's what each person keeps. Each person pays their income minus that amount. If someone earns less than what the others would keep, they pay nothing and the others split the bills among themselves.
- Can Spliteo split our expenses by income?
- There's no percentage mode, but Parts does the same job: for a 60/40 split, give one person 3 parts and the other 2. You choose the split on each expense, so you can split rent by income and dinners out 50/50. Rent can also repeat every month as a recurring expense with a fixed amount per person; the free plan includes 1.
- Is anything I type saved?
- Not on our servers. The calculation runs in your browser and nothing is sent. What you enter lives only in the page's link, after the #, and browsers never send that part to a server.
